Author Guidelines

Publication policy, peer review, and writing rules

Before submission, manuscripts must satisfy the requirements below for scope, scholarly structure, ethical disclosures, similarity reporting, and author information.

Scope and originality

The journal welcomes interdisciplinary research across the fields of music and folklore.

The submission must be unpublished and not under consideration by another journal.
It should offer an original research question, method, or source contribution.
Core topics include music, musicology, folklore, music folklore, organology, religious music, and cultural studies.

Language and article types

The journal accepts manuscripts written in Turkish or English; choose the language in the Manuscript language field of the submission editor. Original research articles, reviews, book reviews, and field notes are considered for publication.

The interface language is independent of the manuscript language; published articles are not automatically translated.
The journal welcomes interdisciplinary research across music and folklore.
Research in anthropology, ethnography, sociology, history, art history, cultural geography, and archaeology in the context of Anatolian culture is also accepted.

Anonymisation and author information

Review is double-anonymous. The platform stores manuscript text separately from identity details entered in the author form.

Enter manuscript text in the submission editor; uploading the same text again as PDF or DOCX is not required.
Do not place names, affiliations, acknowledgements, or other identity clues in the manuscript text.
Enter names, affiliations, ORCID records, email addresses, and contribution statements in the author form; no separate title page is required.

References, tables, and images

Authors are responsible for reference accuracy and permission to reproduce third-party material.

Prepare in-text citations and references in APA 7 style.
Code fieldwork participants in accordance with ethics approval (for example, KK-01, Personal Interview, 2025).
Number tables and figures and include titles, sources, and explanatory captions.
Submit high-resolution images as separate files with all required publication permissions.

Ethical principles and plagiarism policy

Every submission is screened during preliminary review with an authorised similarity tool such as iThenticate, Turnitin, or İntihal.net.

Ethics approval is required only when the research design and applicable rules require it; the committee name, date, and decision number must then be disclosed.
Excluding the bibliography, quoted passages, and small matches, total similarity must not exceed 15%, and a single-source match must not exceed 2%.
Matches shorter than five words or below 2% may be filtered; under APA 7, quotations below 40 words require quotation marks and a page number, while quotations of 40 words or more must be formatted as block quotations.
Direct or mosaic plagiarism results in rejection; the author's institution is notified for direct plagiarism. Unattributed self-plagiarism exceeding 15% is rejected. Confirmed fabrication or manipulation leads to an indefinite submission ban by the editorial board. Salami slicing is rejected; suspected breaches during review are investigated using COPE flowcharts.
During preliminary review, manuscripts with similarity above the 15% limit defined above or unattributed block copying are returned to the author with reasons, without peer review.
Serious breaches confirmed after publication are disclosed through a reasoned retraction notice, and the author's institution may be notified when required.
By signing the Copyright Transfer and Author Declaration Form, authors confirm that the manuscript is original and unpublished in any language or medium, that all ideas, data, images, and maps are properly credited, that the similarity report is complete and unaltered, and that authors bear legal and academic responsibility in any plagiarism case.

Review and revision

Submissions within scope enter double-blind peer review after preliminary assessment by the Editorial Board.

Each manuscript is evaluated by at least two independent specialists; a third review may be sought when necessary.
Reviewer recommendations may be accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject; the editor records the final decision.
Reviewers may also submit manuscripts as authors, but they may not review a submission they authored or co-authored and must disclose any conflict of interest.

Stakeholder responsibilities

The responsibilities of authors, reviewers, and editors are distinct and recorded throughout the publishing process.

Authors are responsible for originality, accurate citation, data integrity, authorship contributions, funding, permissions, and conflict-of-interest disclosures.
Reviewers accept only work within their expertise and complete reviews confidentially, impartially, constructively, and on time.
Editors assess submissions without discrimination, protect review confidentiality, manage conflicts of interest, and provide reasoned decisions.

Open access, fees, and licence

Authors are not charged for submission, evaluation, acceptance, or publication. Published articles are openly accessible.

There is no article processing charge (APC) or other publication fee.
Upload the Copyright Transfer and Author Declaration Form signed by all authors at submission. Obtain the current form from the editorial office; the online declaration does not replace the signed form.
Articles are published under CC BY-NC 4.0, which permits non-commercial sharing and adaptation with appropriate attribution.

Appeals, complaints, corrections, and retractions

Reasoned appeals and complaints about editorial decisions should be sent to editorial@anatolianstudies.com.

Where possible, the matter is reviewed by an independent editor or board member who was not involved in the decision.
Limited errors that do not invalidate the work are addressed through a public correction notice.
When a serious integrity or reliability issue requires retraction, the article is not silently deleted; a reasoned retraction notice remains public.
